It starts as early as 4 a.m. and it happens only once a week.
The vendors open their trucks, set out tables, and fill them chock-full of fresh fruits, veggies, flowers, seafood, meats, chicken, cheese, breads, pastries, jams, honey, spices, you name it!
It's all here, perfectly fresh, reasonably priced, and yours for the taking. We spent a good couple of hours wandering around, looking for the best items to have for our picnic lunch and it was quite the feast!

I hope Mme. Parr remembered to take a cooler with her because I saw at least half a dozen things I want her to bring back. Did she break the top off the baguette and eat it while it was still warm? I used to think that they were baked that way, because that's how baguettes always arrived at the apartment...
ReplyDeleteC'est l'heure du déjeuner et j'ai trop faim après avoir vu ces belles images. De penser qu'on peut trouver tous ces produits pendant toute l'année au marché me rend folle. Les pâtisseries, les beaux fromages de chêvres, o miam! Quelques prix me choquent un peu - 15 euros le kilo pour les tomates de cerises - aiee! J'espère en avoir dans le jardin encore cette année. Amy - tu as un oeil extraordinaire pour les photos. Pour la première fois depuis je ne sais pas combien de temps, nous avons un ciel bleu cet après-midi. Comme cela remonte le morale. Je suis en pleines copies pour mes élèves donc je vais vous laisser tranquilles. Merci pour ces petits moments où je me trouve encore en France grâce à ces photos et passages.

Extraodinary photos of the market! I feel like I am there! I love the fluer de sel displays, something I love to cook with. I'm not sure Taylor will think of that as something he could bring home. (He is thinking chocolate!) The baguettes remind me of our bike trip in Provence a few years ago. Our daughter, Katy (past student of Madam K-S) would purchase a baguette and ride off on her bike chewing happily on her fresh baguette!
